Helping families since 1988. This court-approved program helps families to learn nurturing and effective parenting skills.

Payment arrangements are welcome and low income guidelines are used for reduced rates. Grants also provide for some courses to be taken totally free. PARENTING PROGRAMS
Parent Education: This court-approved program helps families learn nurturing and effective parenting skills. This 12 session program focuses on topics of positive communication, listening skills, child development, problem solving, understanding stress in you and your child, positive and effective discipline methods, and encouragement. Certificate awarded at the end of the 12 sessions. This course can also be customized to any length of time needed. You can begin class anytime and everyone is welcome.
Intensive Parent Education: This court-approved program helps families learn nurturing and effective parenting skills. This intensive parent education program is offered in customized sessions to provide for flexibility for court ordered and case management programs that exceed the 12 session program or require more intensive focuses on topics of positive communication, listening skills, child development, problem solving, understanding stress in you and your child, positive and effective discipline methods, and encouragement. Certificate awarded.
Paraprofessional Education: Our extensively trained paraprofessional staff will assist you in your home with customized needs. Most assignments can be completed within four weeks. Assistance with the arrival of a new baby, organizational skills, budget management and community referral support services are an example of what a paraprofessional can assist you with.
In Home Parent Aide Program: This is The National Exchange Club Foundations research evidence based, nationally accredited parent aide program model which uses professional staff and trained volunteers to provide intensive in-home services to families with children between the ages of 0 to 12 who are needing assistance with family management. Instructional activities include parent education, parent-childbonding, child development, health, nutrition, home management and problem solving. Parent Aides mentor a family and provide case management for up to one year in their home to provide stabilization and support.
First Time Mommies: Based upon the popular series "The Girlfriends Guide to Surviving Childhood", our professional staff will guide this group of first time mommies through the ultimate journey to balance the challenges and joys of being a new mom. The group will create natural community supports and foster new friendships, you will learn you are never alone in your new role as a mom and that life is better under the safety of a sunny "Yellow Umbrella".

ANGER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS
Adult Anger Management: A 12 week gender-neutral program focused on identifying and finding effective techniques to defuse all types of abuse, anger, neglect, and violence against and by family members. Topics discussed develop and strengthen a family’s relationship. Certificate awarded. This course meets court ordered Anger Management requirements and can be customized in length to meet client needs.
Self Esteem: This court approved program is customized by age and gender group to address self esteem and how it plays a role in our lives and how we process thoughts and react to others.
Emotional Intelligence Testing: For decades, a lot of emphasis has been put on certain aspects of intelligence such as logical reasoning, math skills, spatial skills, understanding analogies, verbal skills etc. Researchers were puzzled by the fact that while IQ could predict to a significant degree academic performance and, to some degree, professional and personal success, there was something missing in the equation. This emotional intelligence test will evaluate several aspects of your emotional intelligence and will suggest ways to improve it guiding and teaching you about yourself and why you might react and process anger and thoughts the way you do.
TEENS AND YOUTH PROGRAMS

Youth Anger Management: A customized Department of Juvenile Justice approved course offering insight into the causes of anger; providing effective techniques for managing stress and anger in your young life. Certificate awarded.
Youth and Teens Mentoring: "Stress Busters" (ages 8-12) and "Teens Talking" (ages 13-17) courses help children learn essential life skills such as empathy and kindness, conflict/anger management,and creative problem solving techniques. Programs enhance self-esteem, build character, and family relationships.
Cyber Bullying: Taught by trained staff this course will focus on topics from Preschool to High School and how parents and teachers can break the cycle of violence. Curriculum was created by internationally known author Barbara Coloroso. We will guide you to learn the three kinds of bullying, differences between boy and girl bullies, four abilities that protect your child, healing a bullied child and much more.
Keep Kids Safe Online: A candid class that requires the parent and child to attend together to learn the advantages and dangers of using the internet in todays world of ever changing technology. Topics covered include social media, sexting and parental controls.

DIVORCE PROGRAMS

Fair Play In Divorce: Mommy Daddy & Me: A state approved four-hour course for divorcing couples with minor children. Meets the 18th Judicial Circuit court requirements for the court-mandated Parent Education and Family Stabilization course. Certificate awarded.
Cooperative Parenting & Divorce: A customized court approved course that offers valuable information about the process of divorce and practical skills necessary to create a two household family addressing children's issues associated with divorce and focuses on the personal struggle to overcome the loss of your marriage. You will discover valuable information about divorce, practical suggestions and effective activities to reinforce new skills.

GENERAL COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Car Safety Seat Program: A one hour course taught by certified instructor Florida Trooper Wanda Diaz on how to install and use a car seat and what size requirements your child needs. The course is free and a new car seat will be offered at the end of the course for $20. (This program has been discontinued by the State Troopers Office due to a cut in grant funding, please contact your local Police or Fire Department for car seat safety information.)
Family Budgeting/Finances: This one hour family budgeting course will guide you though the evaluation of your home budget, how to create a working budget and then guide you in areas of savings and how to maximize your dollars.
Resume and Job Seeking Skills: Working with our partner agency, Brevard Workforce Development our instructor will assist you with resume writing and job seeking skills, get the advantage over your competition with this fun and informative course.
Community Support Referral and Donations: Yellow Umbrella provides stabilization and support to our clients directly and works with community agencies through the Brevard 211 referral network to assist Brevard Families in locating services that provide food, shelter, utility payments, clothing and diapers to stabilize and support families to reduce the stress on families that could lead to child abuse and neglect.
On-The-Job Training Center: Working with Brevard Workforce Development and BRIDGES, Yellow Umbrella is certified by the Department of Education and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to provide on-the-job training opportunities to qualified applicants. A Certified Business and Technical Assistance Consultant (CBTAC) is on staff to assist you with your Self Employment and Supported Self Employment issues if you are disabled and receiving assistance from The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Please call us for additional information.
